Table

I'm working on building the dining room table for our house.  Here it is finally put together (the top at least).  it still needs sanding and finishing.  I'm having a hard time deciding on the finish.  It looks like an epoxy type finish will be the best, but it's shinier than we like.  The yellow wood is reclaimed myrtle and has a few soft spots that should be protected.  The border is black walnut.  It's going to be a little tough to decide.
We are getting the legs build out of metal.  I found a similar picture randomly on the web and we found a local guy to make it.  He's great.
It should be fun once it is all together.

Deschutes camping trip

Once again, I dont really get a spring break due to the multiple campuses I teach at.  Up is even proud that they dont have the same spring break as anyone else.  Grrr.  Anyways, I do have three mellowish weeks though.  So last weekend Eric and I took a camping trip up the Deschutes.
It's odd to see the desert green
It sure is pretty though.  But cold. Cold. Cold.
We biked our camping gear in, then walked the second day (haven't been on a bike for a year now with it being buried in the garage.  Hiking was kind of the only option after the bike ride in)
The trail is the old train track bed on the east side of the river.  There is a fun story about the railroad war between the two companies to build the train first.  Both sides of the river got tracks, and then one went away.  This is one of the few remaining water towers.
We havent gotten much exercise lately, but we made up for it on this trip.  The hike on Saturday covered almost 14 miles.
 I love this river
The Harris homestead.  Looks pretty solid from afar...
We even managed to get Rin tired!

Cute pets

A random selection of cute pet pictures
Gus and Belly
Dad's puppy Sam is getting big
 Mirabelle helping me read
Sam looking grown up.  He's 4 months here
He staid with us for a few days while Dad went on vacation.  Man was he cute, but I am so convinced I don't want a puppy!  Rescue dogs work for me!

House Update

The house is moving along, very slowly. It has been hard to keep this blog updated as there has been very little to report.

Here are the tubes going in for the radiant floor

It also gives you an idea what the house is looking like

They poured the concrete floors, but it ends up we cant have a concrete finish because it would crack so the boxes are the bamboo flooring we got on sale to replace the polished concrete.
Then they stained the cedar on the walls and it looks much warmer
The interior bats went up.  It actually looks much cooler than this picture because it matches the outside wall so looks like the outside comes in. (but warm)
From the lake.  It is coming together.  Just slowly.  Don't know when we will ever get to move in.  sigh

Winter term classes

It sure looks like I had an easy term this time with so few classes, but two were new and were biology for majors, a whole new boat.  I also had a class at UP, but they arent done yet.
