Dancing

I got a free dancing lesson last night! It was so very exciting. Last Friday when I went dancing for the first time in ages (almost 6 months!), one of the teachers there finally asked me to dance. He was 'surprised' at my abilities and told me that I should come take a lesson from him sometime. I said I have no money, being a poor college student, and he said what if it's free? Who's gonna pass that up? So I went and it was really cool, wish I actually could afford to continue (private lessons are expensive), but alas... He kept trying to convince me to perform too, either in their dance troupe or at their annual show. I laughed really hard at that one. Ha!

Child labor laws? Pshaw

I had to resort to using children to get my work done this week. Not that I minded, these are pretty cool kids. But, since everyone is on vacation in the university setting, and I had to measure the growth of my plants on the 20th... I duped these girls into working for me.
Miley and Kylie
I know these two from Lab Rescue. Kylie is actually fostering Timmy for me, since she has dogs of her own and they help keep him happy. But the good news is, Timmy is getting adopted!
A family fell madly in love with him (of course!). But they didn't have another dog. I am convinced that he needs dogs around to keep him happy and remind him that life Inst so scary. Instead of saying no though, they called me up and said they were willing to adopt a second dog just to keep Timmy happy! How cool is that?
So, here's Timmy and Dante, the new brothers

And just to leave you with this, I took this pic last week but never got around to posting it. This is Timmy after a long hard day at the market. He was so pooped that I shoved him all around the kitchen and the most he did was open his eyes halfway to protest. Cutie patootie!

Beautiful Brynn

Brynn came back to visit us today. The 4 of us went out to lunch at our favorite sushi place. She is starting grad school in Moss Landing in a few days. We will miss her at the lab, but alas...
Brynn and Jenise had fun comparing rings (remarkably similar!) since both are recently engaged. Ahhhh, lovely ladies.

Visitors!

I had house guests this weekend. Poor guys had to sleep on my floor, but I was so very happy to finally be able to host someone in my home after so many people have taken me into theirs. (plus, I have to admit, I enjoyed having two beautiful boys around. Even if my house smells very strongly of men now) Honza and Jaroslav are two guys that I met in Czech that came to visit at the end of a whirlwind tour of California.
They've been slightly overwhelmed by the crowds as they tried to see all the beauties of this state, so I decided to take them to a nice secluded beauty. This lovely spot is on the Cosumnes River, and is an amazing jumble of granite slabs and boulders and crazy water.

Emily and Jenise joined us and we spent the day relaxing in the sun.

This is Jaroslav, to remind you...

Jenise looking wonderfully leggy

Honza, looking a bit like he is posing for a Michelangelo painting.

There were some definite girly giggles over this, but he took it in good humor, so all's well.

There was this fun little waterfall and hidden pool in the jumble of rocks. Unfortunately, I was a bit limited due to my stupid arm, but alas...

Jenise looks a bit like a laughing mermaid here, at least to me...

More Honza poses

It was a wonderfully relaxing day

In a very beautiful place

Sometimes, just sometimes, I can be convinced that life in California is grand.

classic symptoms

Another doctor appointment, and this time I'm told I definitely have a broken bone. In fact, I have a 'classic' hairline fracture. Whatever. In a way it is better. Bones heal well, tendons don't. if it wasn't bone, who knows when it would heal. ooooh boy

Timmy's home!

Timmy came home last night! I can't tell you how relieved I am.
It was quite a roller coaster though. It was kind of late, I was sitting in the living room reading. I had the door open so I could see just in case he came, just like the last 2 nights. I heard a snuffling sound, and then a bark! My heart lept and I ran outside. The dog had run off but I followed. When I caught up, it was a terrified snarling pitbull. yikes! And not my Timmy!! I was pretty devastated after the moment of hope. I tried to read again, but it really wasn't working. Then I hear a car braking fast and I got curious and looked outside. Across the way, silhouetted in the streetlight, stood my stupid lovely dog! I was crying so hard out of relief that I could hardly even call him to me. He was terribly thirsty, drank two bowls of water. He's filthy, and has no skin on his toes. His mad dash literally wore the flesh right off his feet. He limps now, but he will recover, and he's home!
In other good news, I met with the doctor again today. He says that I didn't fracture anything, just bruised the bone. Still hurts like hell, but that is just fine with me!
So, disaster averted, life is good, and I can breath again.

Lost and Hurting

Things have been rather tough lately. Timmy and I got into a bike accident Tuesday evening when he spooked as a group of bikers rode by. I got knocked over, hit my head (yes, I know I know, helmets everyone!) and apparently broke my arm. Just a hairline fracture so no big deal other than it hurts, but still. The bad thing is, when I fell, Timmy bolted. I've never seen a creature move so fast. He went towards home, but unfortunately kept going when he got there. An amazing amount of people tried to help, but unfortunately he is still missing. I am so worried. Especially since he is dragging a long leash on a choke chain, perfect for catching and strangling.

It was a little bit amusing that I was scaling fences, bushwhacking, and riding my bike around with this bum arm. I felt like an action hero. Unfortunately a failed one though. If I were really so cool, I would have found him already, not just covered myself in spiders, leaves, and more scratches and come out empty handed. Ever tried to climb a fence one armed?

The best to hope is that he is just hiding somewhere, afraid to come out, but I am so worried! My poor little coward!

Other weekend events

So, my life basically revolves around dogs, but most of you know that already. I'm having fun with Timmy, though he is quite a bit of work. He is really opening up and the dog underneath the fear is pretty darn cool, but there are moments (and too many of them still) where the fear rules. His new trick: when walking and startled, the best thing must be to get away from it all, so jump! 3 times now I have been walking along, everything dandy, when suddenly the stupid dog is on top of a car. Yes, sitting on top of a car! One time, he tried to jump on a minivan, so he had to balance on the windshield wipers. What do you do with that?He is improving every day though. And learning pretty quickly. Didn't know anything when I got him, but already knows sit and come. Lots of fun, but man is he neurotic! good thing he is so cute.

On another note, Stephanie and her friend Skyler came over. Skyler is a master of bagpipes and tin whistles. We talked flutes, that was tons of fun. Cool kid.

Sushi!

Emily, Stephanie, and I decided to make sushi last weekend. It was quite an adventure.
Grandma gave me a frydaddy a while ago, so we put it to use making tempura.
Stephanie had the greatest apron.
Timmy did his absolute best to be completely under foot. But look how pretty! I have to say, it turned out pretty dang good. Go us!Afterwards, some silly times playing games and goofing around. Aren't they cute?
