Sam

I've got a new foster for the week. This is Sam. He is just a temporary guest because I am leaving next week for Prague (don't know if I've told you that already, but I'm going to Czech for a little while to visit Dasa and meet with potential collaborators). This dog is just terribly cute in a scrappy sort of way.
He is actually pretty small for a lab, only 50 lbs. But he's all muscular and has the toughest looking face. He's my little tough guy, but like all tough guys, he really just wants to cuddle (as long as nobody's watchin!)And man is he beautiful when he walks! He has this little prance, like a prizefighter who looks like they are dancing. He's no angel though. Already lost my breakfast to his counter surfing. silly dog

Lunar eclipse

I watched the lunar eclipse last night, it was pretty cool. There was a lot of moisture in the air, and my camera isn't really set up for this sort of thing, but I still had to try to take a picture, right? Anyways, this is pretty cool

Doggy weekend

Jake got adopted this weekend. Here is his new family. I really loved this dog and could have happily fostered him forever. Somehow though, this parting was not nearly as painful as some of the previous ones (for me at least, lots of the people I work with were very sad today when they heard the news). I think it is because I thought very seriously about keeping him, weighed all the pros and cons and finally decided it would be best for both of us if he found a more stable home. Still a little sad though. Then, they gave me a temporary foster, just for the weekend. I don't normally take puppies, but her real fosters left for the weekend without telling anyone and everyone else was full.
Meet Mrs. Chew
A terribly adorable little 5 month old puppy.
I've never had a puppy before, unless you count the puppies that my family got when I was a little kid - but I hardly even remember that, so... I freaked out a little when a game of tug of war resulted in bloody teeth on my floor (you'd think it would be obvious that puppies loose baby teeth just like kids, but did I think of that right away? miss biologist here? ha!) I also now have to steam clean my carpet because she got all excited and tinkled. But all in all, it was tons of fun.
On Monday, we took her to the beach and she went wild. Got car sick on the way though, I've never seen a dog drool so much. She never lost it, but she spent the last 1/2 hour salivating all over everything. Once she got to the beach though, she had a blast. There were lots of dead things lying about, dogfish, skates, baby seals, birds, shellfish. I think she almost wore out her nose (and me as well, with all the – oh shit dog, leave it!)
Morgan had almost as much fun as she did, digging in the sand.
And then, I got to give her back. Not too shabby huh? Rent a pup for the weekend?

Wait a sec...

I went contra dancing this weekend. Had a ton of fun, smiled so much that my cheeks hurt (really!). I also danced and had a great time with my Pops... or at least his twin. This man in the photo is not my father, just his long lost brother, or something. I have to say, the resemblance was eerie. There was also a man there that looked so much like Michael as to be his older brother. Even Stephanie picked up on that one and was a little worried about me. The guy asked me to dance, and I admit I was a bit freaked out until he smiled. This guy had a sort of bubbly joy that Michael never had. Still, the resemblance was again amazing. Made me wonder if they were related (I’ve never seen anyone who looks even remotely like Michael).

Because I couldn't resist

Ok, this isnt so exciting, but it's cute!

Tahoe

Stephanie and I went to Tahoe this weekend. Her family has a condo and we got to stay right on the lake (you had to jump a little to see over the snow, but still!). It was beautiful!Jake loved it, and I loved the plowed trails so he couldnt run off and get into trouble.

In fact, Jake loved it so much that I had to take this video to show you. Damn he's cute!

When Jake really wants to be adorable, this is what he does. Sitting pretty just like a tiny toy dog. (I know, I know, I'm gushing, but he's cute ok?)
So, we actually went there to go skiing/snowboarding. I was pretty nervous because I haven't done that in over 10 years (and I was never very good at it). But, it actually went really well. I kicked a little ass in fact. I'm very proud of myself. I think I was actually better than ever before. Fun stuff.
