Basilica Cistern

One of the cool places we went was the basilica cistern, or the Yerebatan Sarnıcı (Sunken Palace)
It was built in the 4th century as a water storage site for the old city

lots of fish in there.  Apparently these fish led to the rediscovery (by western archaeologists) because villagers had secret wells into the cistern to fish and sell at the market.  Follow the fish to their source and you have academic fame

Pretty place
