Laodicea

Laodicea was on our route from Aphrodisias to Pamukkale so we decided why not?  Maybe more walking in the heat should have dissuaded us, but pshaw...

Laodicea was an important trading center on an important trade route crossroad.  It felt so incredibly different from Aphrodisias.  We were on a windswept hillside, a field with odd rocks everywhere

The town is in the process of being repaired and uncovered

Remains of a temple

One of two theaters, I think this is the smaller for 8,000 people.  Much of the lower benches were actually mined in the middle ages.  the marble was burned to make lime

Columns.  You can see the attempts at restoration.

The larger theater, for 12,000 people.

I love the roads

The West Baths

There were multiple large earthquakes in this region.  Eventually, the inhabitants refused imperial rebuilding money and left.  Not a bad idea when your stone houses keep falling on your heads.
