The mosaics in this museum were originally part of the Great Palace from Byzantine times. Some wall and floor panels amazingly preserved/restored, but much of it lost to time. IT was amazing to think of walking down these halls
Many of the scenes were biblical or fable based
A lot of them were bloody
It is obviously a different style than the ones at the Chora museum. Less grand, a little more cartoony
Pretty amazing regardless that this is just a bunch of stone
It is a busy scene down on that floor
I love mosaics!
